When my marriage was arranged at the age of fourteen, I barely understood the various intricacies of life and how important is the role of education. However, against all odds and after having a baby in one year of marriage, I followed my heart and plunged into the quest of fulfilling my dreams. The restlessness that set in triggered the fire to create a difference in my life and realise my identity in the entire cosmos.
On woman's day, I earnestly wish that women realise their inherent powers and execute it for the benefit of self and society. A woman adorns various roles and does it with ease. They must break the bonds of society and choose education over marriage. When an Indian household pressurises for marriage, we as women must object sternly by giving preference to education that help us grow as an individual. We must emphasise our rights to go ahead and overcome every hurdle to fulfil our aspirations.
In case a girl's parents are financially burdened then she should first look for a job and then earn for her education - the way I did. Marriage can come later. Being educated and empowered will build dignity and self respect because she need not dependent on anyone. By being uneducated, she will become helpless and compromise her principles. An empowered woman is independent and can support herself under any unforeseen circumstance with dignity.
