Ayurvedic diet for different body types

Ayurvedic treatments are ideal, because they counteract degenerative processes, environmental pollution, toxic build up and mental stress, all of which have become undesirable features of modern life. They balance the doshas at every level according to an individual's lifestyle, nature and constitution.

Pitta

Characteristics of Pitta dominant body types
* fortitude
* strong willed
* no digestion problems
* enterprising
* vigor
* ardent

Ayurveda's Pitta is consoled light foods that cools the body like fresh fruit and vegetables. Bitter green vegetables like karela, parsley and most greens suit people falling into pitta body type. Fruits that suit pitta body types include sweet berries, apples, coconut, apricots, figs, mango, oranges, pineapples, plums, watermelon, pomegranates, peaches and prunes.

Dairy food are not so good for pitta type people. However, milk, cottage cheese, soft cheese, milk cream and ice creams do more good than harm.

Grains that suit pitta body types include barley, basmati rice and wheat.

Spices that are cooling in nature are also important. These include coriander, cumin, mint, parsley, dill and fennel.

Vata

Characteristics of people with a dominant Vata body type:

* suppleness
* alert
* creative
* bondless energy-mentally and physically

Vata people benefit from meditation, warmth, soothing music, regular breaks and resting, which has to be forceful as they do not feel they need rest.

With regards foods, vata body types should include warming spices, including ginger and cloves, parsley, cooked onion, paprika, anise, cayenne, cinnamon, garlic, mustard seeds and rose water.

If they have a tendency to eat salads, vata should ground the salad with a dressing made from oil and vinegar, and keep the weather in mind while planning to have salads.

Kapha

Characteristics of people with a kapha dominant body type:

* power
* determination
* fortitude
* modesty
* composed

Kapha body type should they avoid food that contains fat and also refrain from consuming heavy proteins. They are already possessing heavy body type and are inherent with amazing constancy and vigor.

Kapha should have light and low fat protein. Beans stimulate kapha's energy and digestive system. Meat and chicken items are good for Kapha people.

They should have plenty of vegetables, including bitter vegetables, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, brinjal, lettuce, onions, potatoes, mushrooms and peas.
