The value of Ayurveda was not profound in India as abroad. Indians did not require an introduction to the world of ayurveda but had, unfortunately taken for granted the home grown ancient Indian heritage. The benefits lay embedded in primeval scriptures and history. The western world was more eager to gain knowledge on ayurveda and the miraculous healing powers. They were waking up to a permanent solution to all their woes, be it related to beauty or health. France, America and UK were reaching a higher level of awareness on ayurvedic solutions. However, reminiscing about the struggle, I still feel there are many more miles to walk.
Once, I was delayed for four day press conference in Yugoslavia. The entire transit was for 800 kms from the place I was staying. On reaching the venue I was not permitted to enter. I went 800 kms and returned to the venue just to compel my way into the last session of fifteen minutes when everyone was packing to depart. Promoting Brand India at all cost was the only motive and I forcibly went on the stage amidst announcements of buses departing to airport, to deliver lecture on Ayurveda. The speech was so captivating most refused to leave and the conference was extended for a day.
In Paris, at Lafayette, we had to sell products worth 2,00,000 francs for securing a permanent counter. Our cosmetic buyer Ms. Helen Hyat disclosed this target just three days before closing date. It was a huge sum to fill. Instantly, my colleague flew from India with 6 carpets under my instructions against all odds. Indian carpets were a rage and the rush was high. Initially, we sold carpets independently and then started giving them against purchase of products worth 15,000 francs. This way, we crossed our target and sold for 7,00,000 francs and secured our place in Lafayette.
At Bloomingdale and Moscow, the purchase of herbal products were so high that security used to be called in for controlling the crowd.
