I am not a superstitious person, though I am deeply spiritual, and something I have always believed in is the energy that spaces exude. I have often walked into a store and for no reason wanted to leave, and sometimes a space just holds you tight as though you never want to leave it. In my career the positive energy of work places have played a formidable role I feel. I had originally planned on starting my Salon at Westend , the poshest area in Delhi and after much searching we found the perfect house. In my mind that house was a gateway to all my dreams. I was just waiting to get my hands on the keys, waiting each moment, the advance had withdrawn from the bank and was tucked safely in the cupboard to give to the landlord in the morning. But that moment never came. We had a break in at the temporary paying guest accommodation my husband and I had taken up and the entire amount was stolen leaving me shocked and in deep despair. As it sunk in that now the swish area of Westend was beyond our reach, my husband convinced me to take a house in Greater Kailash the colony that was at that point at a bargain. It took me days to accept the reality and the compromise. "Don't worry Shunno", my husband told me once you have made a little money we will get the dream house in Westend. That again was never to be. Greater Kailash brought me more luck than I could imagine in my wildest dream and I could never think of moving an inch. In years to come from the modest house which was a compromise I bought the two neighbouring buildings, always trying my best to stay as close to the point of my beginning and success. It was not the space that I had chosen, it was the house that destiny had selected and brought me to, and believe me when I say this it had the most amazing energy. You wanted to stay, you wanted to return, what can be better for a business.
As I sit today and write this for my blog I am finally moving out of Greater Kailash because of the new rules that forbid homes to be used for commercial projects. Will write on about it in the next few days when I catch some time and tell you how I feel leaving the area which was the centre of my success for 30 years.
